Exporters in the Namoi Valley are invited to take part in the upcoming ‘Namoi to Ningbo’ Study Tour. Organised by Namoi Unlimited in collaboration with the Australia China Council, the 7-day tour is for businesses and organisations looking for knowledge, networking, investment and export opportunities in China.
Chairperson of Namoi Unlimited and Mayor of Gunnedah Shire Council Jamie Chaffey said “demand for quality food in China continues to grow, and as diets become more western, we will see an increased demand for beef, grain, sheep and goat meat along with speciality grains, dairy, fruit and vegetables.
“The Namoi region is renowned globally for its world-class food and fibre, and with the right advice and strategic planning we are potentially well placed to help feed and clothe the world’s growing population.”
This will be Namoi Unlimited’s second trip to China and builds on established relationships with export advisors, industry and government officials.
“It will be a busy seven days with briefings, meetings with importers and events in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Ningbo,” explains Cr Chaffey.
“A highlight will be a showcase dinner featuring produce from the Namoi region.
“The importance of our second visit to Ningbo in China’s Zhejiang province cannot be understated. Ningbo is an important centre for trade and economic activity and home to one of the world’s biggest seaports. Our relationship with the agricultural bureau has grown into a strategic relationship with the foreign affairs bureau, which will hopefully be formalised in May.
“Namoi Unlimited had the pleasure of hosting a business delegation from Ningbo in August last year. These business relationships are important for business to meet with business and build relationships.
“There is strong interest in our region and respect for our farmers,” says Cr Chaffey.
China is the first facilitated market opportunity identified by Namoi Unlimited as part of its Trade and Investment Strategy. The strategy aims to facilitate investment, accelerate trade and increase agricultural productivity and innovation in the Namoi region.
The ‘Namoi to Ningbo’ Study Tour departs Australia on May 19.
